Regis Extends Winning Streak to Four with Road Victory

BOSTON – Regis College extended its winning streak to four matches with a 3-0 victory (25-17, 25-19, 25-22) over Wentworth Thursday night in a non-conference women's collegiate volleyball match at Tansey Gymnasium.

Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) notched another double-double as she led the Pride with 12 kills and 12 digs, plus she hit .407 in the match and added two service aces. Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) dished out 28 assists, and Avery Mola (Cheshire, Conn.) collected seven kills and 11 defensive digs.

The Pride scored four of the first five points in the match, including two kills by Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.), and then they rattled off four straight points to open an 8-3 advantage. After the Leopards closed to within two points at 10-8, Regis put together a 7-1 scoring run, capped by a block from Fabiano and Kate Montigny (Shrewsbury, Mass.), to extend its lead to 17-9. The two teams exchanged points the rest of the opening set.

Tenorio started the second set with a service ace as the Pride eventually opened an 11-6 lead thanks to a 6-1 scoring run, capped by a Tenorio kill and a service ace from Rita Dow (Nashua, N.H.). Kinsey Lutz earned two service aces to bring Wentworth within one point at 12-11, but Regis halted the Leopard rally with a 7-3 scoring stretch.

Wentworth (7-4) again closed to within two points at 21-19 thanks to kills by Riley Schoonmaker and Kate McLane, but the Pride scored the final four points of the second set on two kills by Mckinney and two Leopard errors.

In a competitive third set that featured 12 ties and six lead changes, Wentworth took the early lead on a kill by Ema Thompson and a service ace from McLane. After the Pride pulled into a 7-7 tie, the Leopards retook the lead thanks to a quick 4-1 scoring run, led by two kills from McLane.

The Pride finally pulled ahead at 18-17 thanks to three kills from Tenorio, but the Leopards roared back on kills by McLane, Abby Warren, and Thompson. After a block by Schoonmaker and Helen Barthe tied the set at 22-22, Regis closed out the match with three unanswered points, including kills by Dow and Tenorio.

McLane led the Leopards offensively with 11 kills, while Lutz finished with 16 assists and two service aces. Defensively, Schoonmaker paced the team at the net with three total blocks, and Amanda Zweifler led all players with 15 digs.

Regis College (7-4) heads to Hartford, Conn., for a non-conference tri-match Saturday, Sept. 23, first facing host Trinity at 12 p.m. before taking on Montclair State at 2 p.m.
