Tenorio, Mckinney, Fabiano Receive GNAC WVB Weekly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. - After leading the Pride to a 3-0 week, three members of the Regis College women's volleyball team are weekly award recipients as selected Monday, Sept. 18, by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC), as Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) was named GNAC Player of the Week, Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.) has been named GNAC Setter of the Week for the third consecutive time, and Grace Fabiano (Greenland, N.H.) has received GNAC Rookie of the Week honors.

The Regis women's volleyball team improved to 6-4 overall over the past week, starting with a 3-1 victory at Worcester State last Tuesday night. Saturday, the Pride defeated Salve Regina University, a team who entered the contest with a 6-1 record, in four sets before sweeping Husson University. The victory over Salve Regina was the 100th career coaching victory in women's collegiate volleyball for Regis head coach Josh Anderson.

Tenorio hit a season-best .296 as she earned 12 kills against Worcester State, plus she collected a then-season high 20 digs. Against Salve Regina, she improved upon her season-best dig total with 22 digs to go along with 12 kills and two service aces, plus she made just one reception error in 34 chances. Tenorio capped off the week with a season-high six service aces along with six digs, three kills, and two assists during the first two sets against Husson.

So far this season, Tenorio is second in the GNAC in total kills with 94, third in total digs with 133, and sixth in total service aces with 17. She became the fifth player in program history with at least 900 career digs at Regis and she has moved into a tie for seventh place on the all-time service aces list for the Pride with 150 career service aces. This is the first career weekly award for Tenorio, selected Third Team All-GNAC in 2022.

Mckinney continues to run the Regis offense while also contributing to the team's success in other ways. Tuesday night at Worcester State, she notched a double-double with 27 assists and 11 digs, plus she earned seven kills and six service aces. In the four-set victory over Salve Regina, Mckinney ended up with 38 assists, her second-highest single-match total of the season, to go along with three service aces.

Mckinney leads the league in total assists with 254 and is second in the GNAC in assists per set (7.06). She has moved into seventh place on the Regis career assists list with 929. Mckinney has now received the GNAC Setter of the Week award in all three weeks since the start of the 2023 season.

Fabiano enjoyed her best week this season, starting with a seven-kill performance at Worcester State Tuesday night. Saturday, she earned a season-high 11 kills along with three digs and four block assists as the Pride defeated Salve Regina. Fabiano played the entire match against Husson, going 10-for-19 on attack attempts without an error for a .526 hitting percentage while picking up four more block assists.

Through the first 10 matches, Fabiano has accumulated 63 kills, averaging 1.70 kills per set, as well as a team-high 28 total blocks, averaging 0.76 blocks per set to currently sit sixth in the GNAC. Fabiano becomes the first Regis first-year player to receive GNAC Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week honors since the Pride joined the conference in 2017.

Regis College heads into Boston to face Wentworth Thursday, Sept. 21, beginning at 6 p.m. The Pride then travel to Hartford, Conn., for a tri-match Saturday, Sept. 23, taking on host Trinity College at 12 p.m. and Montclair State at 2 p.m.
