Women’s Volleyball Cruises to Regis Fest Double Victory

WESTON, Mass. - With 74 kills against just 15 attack errors for a .418 team hitting percentage and 33 service aces during the day, Regis College swept both Dean College and Albertus Magnus College Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's volleyball tri-match at Higgins Court.

REGIS 3, DEAN 0 (25-11, 25-5, 25-8)

Kamdyn Tenorio (Irvine, Calif.) went 6-for-8 on attack attempts for a .750 hitting percentage, plus she earned a team-high five service aces, while Kate Montigny (Shrewsbury, Mass.) also finished with six kills along with three digs and three total blocks. Kaitlyn Miller (Nottingham, N.H.) collected 20 assists and six digs as she helped the Pride post a .485 hitting percentage as a team, plus the team earned 12 service aces, including four by Makenzie Price (Birmingham, Ala.).

The first set started with a kill by Montigny sandwiched around two aces from Tenorio, but Dean answered with six straight points, led by two aces from Caitlin Cooper as well as kills by Janai Price and Sari Albury. Regis responded first with an 8-2 scoring run to take the lead for good, followed by 10 unanswered points, featuring two kills apiece from Montigny, Ahnasia Mckinney (Chelmsford, Mass.), and Tenorio, to open a 12-point advantage. After two straight points from the Bulldogs, the Pride scored the final four points of the opening set, capped by consecutive kills from Tenorio.

Regis opened a 12-2 lead in the second set, including two kills each from Ayla Albers (San Diego, Calif.), Olivia Pacheco (Waterford, Conn.), and Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.). Dean's Skylar Raskevitz notched consecutive service aces before the Pride rattled off 13 straight points to close out the set, starting with three aces from Price and concluding with a kill by Miller.

Tenorio notched three straight service aces as the Pride scored the first five points of the third set and kept expanding the lead, eventually reaching match point on kills by Emma Gearing (Foster, R.I.) and Nicolette Teti (Marblehead, Mass.). The Bulldogs scored four unanswered points, featuring back-to-back kills by Corrine Rivera, to extend the contest before Gearing closed it out with a kill.

REGIS 3, ALBERTUS MAGNUS 0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-10)

Rita Dow (Nashua, N.H.) led the Pride with nine kills and a .533 hitting percentage, plus she earned four of the team's 21 service aces, with Tenorio pacing the squad with eight aces to go along with a team-high eight digs. Whalen also finished with nine kills, while Mckinney contributed 20 assists, five kills, three service aces, and seven digs.

Regis took control of the first set with a 12-2 scoring run, including two aces apiece by Price and Mckinney. The Pride closed out the set with an 8-2 scoring run, featuring three kills from Whalen.

Led by two kills from Dow and two aces by Tenorio, Regis scored five of the first six points of the second set, then rattled off eight unanswered points, including two kills from Pacheco, to open a 15-5 advantage. The Pride would eventually close out the second set by scoring the final three points on a kill by Price and back-to-back aces from Dow.

In the third set, consecutive kills by Diana Kalman (East Haven, Conn.) allowed the Falcons to take an early 5-4 lead before five straight points from the Pride, including two service aces by Miller. After a kill by Shalese Gordon (Bridgeport, Conn.) pulled Albertus Magnus within five at 15-10, Regis finished off the set and the match with 10 unanswered points, including two kills by Teti and punctuated by a Tenorio service ace, her fourth within the final scoring run.

Kalman led the Falcons with six kills, but as a team Albertus Magnus was held to a negative hitting percentage with more attack errors (11) than kills (10). Taina Vargas(Bridgeport, Conn.) paced the Falcon backline with seven defensive digs.

In the middle match of the day, Albertus Magnus (4-10, 1-1 GNAC) defeated Dean (2-12, 0-3 GNAC), 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-17). Kalman led the Falcons with 13 kills, a .310 hitting percentage, and five total blocks, while Peyton Davis (North Haven, Conn.) contributed five kills and 12 defensive digs. Sari Allbury (Nassau, Bahamas) led the Bulldogs with seven kills, and Skylar Raskevitz (Easthampton, Mass.) finished with a match-high 17 digs.

Regis College (9-6, 3-1 GNAC) hits the road for a match against future GNAC member Mitchell College Wednesday, Sept. 28, starting at 7 p.m. Albertus Magnus travels to face Curry College Thursday, Sept. 29, starting at 6 p.m., and Dean heads into Boston to take on Suffolk Monday, Sept. 26, beginning at 7 p.m.
