CoSIDA PRESS RELEASE - 2021 ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM

AUSTIN, Texas – Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.), a senior on the Regis College volleyball and track and field teams, has been named a Third Team selection to the CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America® Women's Volleyball Team, announced Thursday, Dec. 16, by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Fagundo is the first student-athlete in any sport to represent Regis College on the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team.

During the 2021 season, Fagundo played a significant role as the volleyball team accumulated the second-most victories in a season in program history with 23. She became the sixth player in team history to collect at least 1,000 career assists, finishing with 1,010 helpers. For the year, Fagundo led the squad with 557 assists, eighth on the Pride's single season assists list.

Academically, Fagundo has maintained a 4.0 grade point average while majoring in nuclear medicine. During the volleyball season, she continued to receive clinical experience at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. In the upcoming spring semester, she will return to MGH, plus she will also do a clinical rotation at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Fagundo is on track to graduate in the spring of 2022 with a Bachelor of Science degree, plus she will rejoin the Regis track and field team to compete in sprinting and jumping events for the Pride. After graduation, she plans to sit for her board exams with an eye on working as a nuclear medicine technologist in a major Boston hospital.

"I am honored to be recognized in this manner by the members of CoSIDA nationwide. I want to thank my family, friends, professors, and coaches, as well as the Regis community, for their help and support. I look forward to continuing to represent Regis College not only as I finish my academic work, but also as a member of the Pride track and field team," said Fagundo.

The 22 student-athletes that make up all three teams have an average cumulative GPA of 3.88. Fagundo is one of six members of the 2021 Academic All-America® Division III volleyball teams with a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA. She is also one of five honorees from schools within Massachusetts, joining Annie Bryan of MIT, Cate Desler of Tufts University, Sara Labadorf of Springfield College, and Amanda Wetmore of WPI.

The Division III Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Division III Academic All-America® teams.
