Mica van der Meulen Named GNAC Libero of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – After leading Regis College to a 3-1 week that featured two comeback victories, senior Mica van der Meulen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Libero of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Last Tuesday, van der Meulen helped the Pride rally back from a first-set loss to defeat Norwich, 3-1, tying her career high with 26 defensive digs. She earned nine digs in both the second and third sets as Regis took control of the contest.

In Thursday's contest against Fisher, van der Meulen finished with a new career high total of 33 digs, collecting nine digs in the second set and eight digs in both the third and fourth sets as the Pride rallied from a 2-0 deficit to pull out the match, winning the fifth set 17-15. In addition, she successfully received 30 serves in the contest without a reception error as the Cadets notched only five aces.

She continued to lead the Pride defense in Saturday's 3-0 sweep at Albertus Magnus, finishing with 21 digs, two assists, and two service aces. She contributed nine digs, three assists, and three service aces against Rivier as Regis battled to extend that match to four sets.

For the week, van der Meulen totaled 89 digs, averaging 5.56 digs per set, as the team extended its winning streak to 11 matches, one of the longest winning streaks in program history. For the season, she is currently fourth in the conference in digs per set at 4.04, and she has moved into eighth place on Regis's all-time digs list with 780 career digs, just seven digs behind the sixth place total.
