Women's Volleyball Dominates Bay Path, Advances To NECC Final

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis (Mass.) women's volleyball team took its first step toward a conference three-peat, overwhelming Bay Path with a straight-set defeat in the semifinals of the New England Collegiate Conference women's volleyball tournament Friday night at Higgins Court. Set scores were 25-14, 25-9, 25-14.

The top-seeded Pride now host Daniel Webster on Sunday, 1:00 p.m. DWC outlasted Newbury in a five-set thriller to advance to the title match at Regis.

Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) had a match-high 10 kills for the Pride (14-15) who dominated from start to finish. Nicole Connolly (San Mateo, Calif.) shared a match-high eight digs with the Wildcats' Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) and Veasey and MacKenzie Emco (Sutton, Mass.) both had four blocks to lead a 14-block effort for the Pride who advance to their third straight NECC title match.

Set one saw Regis take a 10-5 lead off back-to-back aces from Sydney Trusty (Durham, Conn.), forcing Bay Path to use a timeout. The Wildcats (9-11) would hang around briefly before the Pride used a 15-4 run to close out the set. Emco had a pair of kills down the stretch to put Bay Path away.

In the second frame, the Pride delivered one of its most impressive single set showings, scoring the first 11 points and racing out to a 14-1 lead. Shay Faber (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) delivered six aces sandwiched around a Veasey kill in the early run. The lead continued to swell and Lauren Butt (Topsfield, Mass.) shut the door with her set-ending kill.

Set three proved to be a formality as Regis used a 9-0 run midway through to take control and complete the sweep.

Vallee added six kills to her dig total with Paige Marshall (New Britain, Conn.) posting three kills and four digs.
