Women's Volleyball Swept By Framingham State

WESTON, Mass.Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) drilled a match-high 15 kills, Caroline Fuentes (Downey, Calif.) added 13 digs but it wasn't enough as the Regis (Mass.) women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Framingham State in a non-conference tilt Monday night at Higgins Court. Set scores were 26-24, 25-20, 25-15.

Stephanie Carter (Jupiter, Calif.) posted 11 digs and Kayla Nystedt (Onamia, Minn.) added three blocks for the Pride (11-15) who close the non-conference portion of its schedule.

Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) did the damage for Framingham State on both sides of the net. She posted 12 kills to go along with match-highs of 14 digs and four blocks. Julia Wan (South Deefield, Mass.) added 10 kills and Mackenzie Whalen (Norton, Mass.) added 11 digs.

FSU (18-10) considerably had the better of Regis in sets two and three, but the Pride had an excellent chance at a set one victory. A Rachel Bartels (Edinburg, Texas.) ace put Regis up 6-4 but the Rams regained the lead at 10-9 on a Whalen kill. Late in the set, Wan's kill and ace gave her team set point at 24-21, but after back-to-back kills from Veasey and a Fuentes ace, Regis had tied it up. FSU responded and two points later had grabbed the first set.

Regis found itself down early in set two. FSU ran off six straight points before a Sydney Trusty (Durham, Conn.) kill stemmed the tied. The lead extended to 14-7 but the Pride kept within striking distance, even making a late run to cut the score to 23-20 off back-to-back Veasey kills. FSU again halted the Pride run, winning the next two points to take a two-set lead.

The Pride proved to be no match in set three as the Rams completed the sweep with a 25-15 win. Regis played catchup most of the way and FSU put the set away with a late 7-1 run.

Regis returns to NECC play on Wednesday where they are in a four-way log jam at 5-1 for the top spot in the conference. The Pride host Mitchell at 7:00 p.m. at Higgins Court. The Rams next play this Thursday, Oct. 27 at Curry College (6:00 p.m.).
