Women's Volleyball's Win Streak Snapped by Emmanuel

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) women's volleyball team saw its four-game winning streak snapped on Thursday night, falling to the Emmanuel College Saints in straight sets (25-22, 26-24, 25-21) in what will be the final non-conference meeting between the two schools.

With the win, the Saints improve to 8-12 on the season (4-0 GNAC), while the Pride drops to 5-12 (2-0 NECC).

After a back-and-forth 25-22 opening set went to the Saints, the Pride got off to a roaring start in set two, opening on a 12-3 run. Emmanuel battled all the way back however, and despite trailing 24-21 late in the point, took the last five points with sophomore outside hitter Mary Shelow (Miami, Fla.) at the service line to take a two-set lead.

The Pride showed some fight in the third set, battling back to within three points after falling behind by a score of 18-11. In the end, it was the Saints that closed out the set by a score of 25-21 to win the match.

Emmanuel senior Kaitlyn Atkinson (Brookline, N.H.) led all players with eight kills in her team's win. For Regis, freshman Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) led the team with seven kills. Defensively, sophomore libero Caroline Fuentes (Downey, Calif.) and freshman right side Stephanie Carter (Jupiter, Fla.) each added nine digs in the loss.

Next up for the Pride, they will host Mount Ida and Worcester State in a non-conference tri-match on Saturday. The Saints will return to action for an all-GNAC tri-match at home the same day, going head-to-head with Suffolk and Albertus Magnus.
