Women's Volleyball Takes Down Bay Path in Four Sets

WESTON, Mass.Rachel Bartels (Edinburg, Texas) posted 13 kills, Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) added 11 digs and after a first set hiccup the Regis (Mass.) women's volleyball team beat Bay Path in New England Collegiate Conference action on Saturday at Higgins Court. Set scores were 19-25, 25-12, 25-11, 25-15.

The match was the league opener for both teams as Regis improved to 4-11 overall and 1-0 in the NECC and Bay Path fell to 5-7 and 0-1 in league play.

Caroline Fuentes (Downey, Calif.) added 10 digs and Sydney Trusty (Durham, Conn.) recorded six kills and seven digs. Paige Marshall (New Britain, Conn.) led the Wildcats with seven kills and Lexi Cears (Agawam, Mass.) added a team-high seven digs.

Bay Path jumped to an early lead in the opening set which later swelled to 20-12 after back-to-back aces from Talia Hicks (Northfield, Mass.). The Pride made a late run on the strength of three kills by Bartels in a 7-2 Regis run. Bay Path would put the set away though and take the early lead.

The Pride regrouped and took control of the rest of the match. A pair of Veasey kills helped her team to an early 10-3 lead but Bay Path would remain in striking distance by the midway point. However, Trusty's kill and two aces in a 7-3 run put the set away.

Set three saw the Pride close on a 13-1 run to win going away. The team scored 13 points on Fuentes' serve with Bartels catching fire with five kills in the run.

Regis closed out the match in similar fashion. The Pride led 8-7 before reeling off 14 of the next 18 points to win going away. Courtney Mosher (Taunton, Mass.), who earned the set four start, delivered back-to-back kills in the run.

Regis next visits Becker on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m. Bay Path plays at Southern Vermont on the same day and time.
