Women's Volleyball Falls To Johnson & Wales, Connecticut College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Regis (Mass.) Pride women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday, suffering a sweep to Johnson & Wales then dropping a four-set defeat to Connecticut College in a tri-match hosted by JWU at Wildcat Center.

The Pride (1-11) opened against a Johnson & Wales squad that entered and left the match undefeated with its 25-12, 25-14, 25-10 win. Regis posed little threat as the Wildcats steadily built comfortable leads in each set.

Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) led the Pride with seven kills and Shay Faber (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) added a team-high 11 digs. The Pride struggled at the net hitting just .011 for the match.

JWU had a pair of players post double figures in kills led by 12 from Maria Coniglio (Old Bethpage, N.Y.). Elizabeth Hamilton (Canton, Mass.) added a match-high 14 digs.

The second match of the double header saw the Pride narrowly edged in the opening set and win set two, but ultimately falling 26-24, 22-25, 25-20, 25-19 to Connecticut College. Sydney Trusty (Durham, Conn.) delivered a stellar performance in the loss with 14 kills and 14 digs.

Nicole Connelly (San Mateo, Calif.) added 12 kills with Dylan Godfrey (Wellington, Fla.) recording 13 digs.

The Pride had a golden opportunity to snag set one after Godfrey's ace put Regis up 22-19. But a pair of kills by Maddie Rust (Austin, Texas) then another from Belina Mulally (Garden Grove, Calif.) tied the set. Selena Santos' ripped two kills of her own to give the Camels the lea before taking the opening set.

Regis trailed midway through set two before running off seven straight points to take a 15-13 lead. Connolly and Veasey both had a pair of kills in the spurt. The Camels regained the lead but down the stretch it was the Pride who got the points it needed to even the match.

The next two sets belonged to Connecticut College, however, who cruised to the four-set win. The Pride held leads midway through both sets but the Camels came on to earn the two wins.

Regis returns to the court on Tuesday, Sept. 27 hosting UMass-Dartmouth at 6:00 p.m.

Connecticut College hosts Eastern Connecticut College the same day (7:00 p.m.) with JWU next playing on Wednesday, Sept. 28 hosting Simmons at 7:00 p.m..
