Women’s Volleyball Notches First Win, Splits At Rivier Tri-Match

NASHUA, N.H. - The Regis (Mass.) Pride women's volleyball team notched its first win Saturday, topping Colby College in four sets on the back end of a doubleheader at Muldoon Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-23, 25-14, 16-25, 25-23.

Regis (1-7) rebounded from a sweep (25-14, 25-17, 25-14) by host Rivier in the first match of the day.

Sydney Trusty (Durham, Conn.) and Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) shared match-high honors with nine kills apiece. Veasey added 10 digs to come up one kill short of her first career double double. Dylan Godfrey (Wellington, Fla.) recorded a match-high 11 digs.

Set one saw Regis take an early 9-3 lead off a pair of Colby errors, but the Mules rallied to come within one point at 15-14. Regis would trail late but a Kayla Nystedt (Onamia, Minn.) kill tied the set at 21-21 and the Pride took over and went up a set.

Regis used a 13-0 run in set two to win going away. Colby led 9-7 before a Shay Faber (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) kill and back-to-back Crystina Lathrop aces kickstarted the huge run. Veasey would drill consecutive kills to seal the win.

After a third-set hiccup, the Pride completed the win with its set four win. Trusty's kill gave her team an 8-7 lead, one the Pride would not lose.

In the first match of the day, Rivier took it to the Pride to keep them winless on the season. Trusty and Veasey combined to hammer down 13 kills and collect 16 digs over the three sets played. Both Lathop and Faber dished out nine assists apiece and Nystedt totaled two blocks in the loss.

Senior Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the way offensively with 9 kills and a .350 hitting percentage to go along with her four total blocks on the defensive side of the net. Classmate Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) added seven kills on her .353 hitting percentage with sophomore Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) handing out 29 assists.

Along the back line, junior Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) led the squad with 13 digs as McCormack provided support with 12 digs. Senior Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) had a solid morning with six kills for Rivier.

Regis returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 20 against Anna Maria. First serve at Higgins Court is schedule for 6:00 p.m.
