Women's Volleyball Drops Season Openers Against Brandeis, Babson

WALTHAM, Mass. - Junior setter Crystina Lathrop (Houston, Texas) recorded a double-double, turning in team-highs with 11 digs and 11 assists, but it wasn't enough as the Regis (Mass.) women's volleyball team fell to Brandeis in their season opener on Friday afternoon, (25-13, 25-19, 25-16), then dropped a four-set match to Babson 23-25, 25-11, 25-21, 25-17

The losses drops the Pride's record to 0-2 on the young season.

Junior co-captain Nicole Connolly (San Mateo, Calif.) looked strong in her first game at outside hitter after playing middle the last two seasons for the Pride. She led Regis with five kills on the afternoon and finished just behind Lathrop with 10 digs.

Brandeis sophomores Shea Decker-Jacoby (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Zara Platt (Fountain Valley, Calif.), along with freshman Emma Bartlett (Duxbury, Mass.) all added a team-high six kills to lead a balanced Judges attack. Defensive contributions from Grace Krumpack (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Yvette Cho (San Diego, Calif.), who each added 13 digs, helped to solidify the Brandeis victory.

The Pride's second half of their season-opening doubleheader is already underway against Babson, and the team will return for two more matches tomorrow as part of the MIT Invitational. They open against the host Engineers at 11:00 a.m., before taking on Tufts at 3:00 p.m. Brandeis is currently taking on Bowdoin College, and will play Tufts and Endicott on Saturday.

The second match of the doubleheader saw Regis go up a set against Babson but fall convincingly in the final three frames.
