PRIDE SPLIT TRI-MATCH AT MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Regis College women's volleyball team split a tri-match hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon. The Pride earned a 3-1 (11-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-23) victory against Smith College and dropped a 3-0 (11-25, 9-25, 13-25) decision to the host Engineers. With the split, Regis' record moved to 8-9 on the season.

With the 3-1 victory over Smith, Head Coach Scott Wright became the programs all-time leader in wins with 61. Wright passed the previous mark held by Chris Corbett who led the Pride from 1994-1997.

Sophomore Graciella Molinari (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) paced Regis with 14 kills and a .364 hitting percentage as classmate Sydney Trusty (Durham, Conn.) came in next with 13 kills. Freshman Rachel Bartels (Edinburg, Texas) contributed 10 kills and three blocks while sophomore Crystina Lathrop (Houston, Texas) racked up 37 assists, 16 digs, four aces, and two blocks. Sophomore Nicole Connolly (San Mateo, Calif.) recorded 13 digs and two blocks as classmate Haley Schulte (Fullerton, Calif.) collected 12 digs. Freshman Emma Morales (San Juan, Puerto Rico) tacked on seven digs and three aces in the victory.

Macarena Rojas (Maipu, Santiago, Chile) once again led the way for Smith as she produced a double-double on 13 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Jenna Rubin (Norfolk, Conn.) notched seven kills and three blocks while Elizabeth Peay (Lebanon, Conn.) rounded out the front row with six kills and two blocks. Mei-Li Smith (Cypress, Calif.) provided the Pioneers with their second double-double of the match courtesy of 23 assists and 18 digs. Julie Voorhes (Ramona, Calif.) also generated 18 digs in addition to four aces while sophomore Sakura Tamaki (New York, N.Y.) recorded 14 digs.

Junior Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) and Sophomore Alli Davanzo (St. Johns, Fla.) paced MIT's balanced attack with eight kills apiece. Lisette Tellez (Miami, Fla.), Carly Staub (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) and Kerrie Greene (Alpharetta, Ga.) each added six kills while Tellez had seven digs and Staub chipped in three blocks. Freshman Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) connected on five of her six hitting attempts and earned two aces as junior Tori Wuthrich (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) collected a match-high 13 digs. Fiona Tanuwidjaja (Renton, Wash) totaled 21 assists and three aces while Christina Liao (Warren, N.J.) distributed 12 assists in the final frame.

Bartels and sophomore Emily DeBarros (Brockton, Mass.) both accounted for three kills as Lathrop registered six assists. Connolly anchored the defense with eight digs, followed by Morales with seven digs. Schulte contributed five digs and two aces while freshman Caroline Fuentes (Downey, Calif.) chipped in four digs.

Jolla, Calif.) both chipped in five digs while freshman Carly Staub (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) added three blocks. Freshman Christina Liao (Warren, N.J.) tallied 16 assists, two blocks, and two aces while fellow rookie Fiona Tanuwidjaja (Renton, Wash.) dished out 11 assists.

Regis continues non-conference play on Thursday, Oct. 1 with a trip to Wentworth Institute of Technology.
