In the first match of the day, Regis College (14-8, 1-0 NECC) defeated Southern Vermont College (4-9, 0-1 NECC), 3-0, in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup. The Pride beat the Mountaineers for the first time in six tries dating back to 2011, including the last two NECC Championship matches, and improved to 1-0 in the NECC this year.

Regis jumped out to an early 9-5 lead following back-to-back service aces from Marilia Ramos (Chimbote, Peru), forcing a Southern Vermont timeout. The Pride never looked back, taking the opening set 25-10 behind four kills from Gracie Molinari (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) and six service aces from the team.

In the second set, the Pride held a 16-9 lead after another Molinari kill. Southern Vermont would not go away, however, as the Mountaineers climbed back into the match, and trailed 18-16 following an Alexandra Sinicropi (Fulltonville, N.Y.) kill and a pair of Pride errors. Regis pushed their lead back to 21-16 after a Shay Faber (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) service ace, but four errors by the Pride allowed SVC back into the match and the score was as close as 22-21.

An SVC error followed by a Tina Lathrop (Houston, Texas) kill got the Pride to within one point of winning the set, 24-21, and prompted a Southern Vermont timeout. Molinari ended the set with a kill on a feed from Lathrop as the Pride took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-22 win.

Set three was all Regis as the Pride hit .345 in the game, led by four kills apiece from Molinari and Nicole Connolly (San Mateo, Calif.), and three kills each from Sam Bliss (Framingham, Mass.) and Kristina del Rey (Miami, Fla.).
