PRIDE FALL TO MOUNTAINEERS IN NECC CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH

BENNINGTON, Vt. – In a rematch of the 2012 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's volleyball championship match, Southern Vermont College came away with a 3-2 victory over Regis College Saturday night in Bennington, Vt.

The Mountaineers move to 4-6 on the season with the win, 1-0 in NECC play. Regis falls to 6-13, 0-1 in the conference.

Southern Vermont took the match with game scores of 22-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-14, and 15-8.

After an opening set in which the Pride recorded a .206 hitting percentage, their best game of the night, Southern Vermont upped its blocking to help qualm the Regis attack to tie the match at 1-1. The Pride responded by just edging SVC in the third set, but the Mountaineers were able to take the fourth to push the contest to the deciding frame which Southern Vermont won.

Pride senior captain Vanessa Noesi (Puerto Plata, D.R.) led the team with 15 kills while senior libero Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif.) recorded a match-high 28 digs. Junior Marilia Ramos (Chimbote, Peru) had 22 assists on the night in addition to three service aces and 12 digs.

Mountaineer junior Jessica Delgado (Los Angeles, Calif.) led all players with 26 kills while adding 22 digs and two service aces; she also tallied a solo and assisted block. Senior libero Vanessa Ruelas (Paramount, Calif.) led the team with 23 digs while sophomore setter Sheilani Kaleopla (Riverside, Calif.) assisted on 45 of the team's 56 kills. Senior Carrie Baltazar (Whittier, Calif.) had a solid night with 14 kills and only three errors on 49 attempts for a .224 hitting percentage, 14 digs, two service aces and two block assists.

Both squads continue the NECC schedule Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. as the Mountaineers welcome Elms College to the SVC campus and the Pride see Bay Path College visit.
