VOLLEYBALL CLAIMS PLAYOFF BID WITH WIN OVER WENTWORTH

WESTON, Mass.—With a 3-0 defeat of Wentworth Saturday, women’s volleyball claimed the No. 8 spot in The Commonwealth Coast Conference playoffs. Regis College and Wentworth were tied for the eighth position going into Saturday’s match, and the win gave Regis College outright ownership.

Regis College (9-24, 3-7 TCCC) enters the quarterfinals to play No.1 seed Roger Williams (Nov. 2). The Pride lost an earlier decision to the Hawks 3-0 during the regular season.

Saturday’s win is the third time that a playoff bid has come down to being decided by the winner of the Wentworth-Regis College match. Tuesday will mark the third consecutive year that the Pride have made a TCCC appearance, and the first time Regis will play a team other than Endicott College.

Regis College has not made it past the quarterfinals match, having lost to Endicott in the two previous years 3-0 in both matches.

This is the first time in the TCCC postseason for first-year head coach Chris Ridolfi. He took over the team at the beginning of the 2010 season with several returnees, and a handful of young players.

All teams that qualified for the playoffs begin play Tuesday, Nov. 2.
