PRIDE DEFEATED BY HAWKS 3-0

BRISTOL, R.I. – The RWU Volleyball team improved to 6-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference and 17-3 overall after defeating the visiting Pride of Regis College 3-0 Tuesday night. The Hawks posted 36 kills in the match, finishing with a .282 hitting percentage.

RWU jumped out to a big lead early in the first set and never looked back, taking game one, 25-10. Regis found itself down 11-7 early in the second before a strong Hawks squad finished well, pulling away for the 25-12 victory. The resilient Pride battled back in the third set, as freshman Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif.) served three-straight points to tie the set at 14-14. RWU held a one-point lead up to 18-17 before the team pulled away and senior Rebekah Dion (Old Saybrook, Conn.) finished the game, 25-21, with one of her match-high 12 kills.

Hawks freshman setter Sarah DeVries (Dover Plains, N.Y.) tallied 18 assists to lead all players, while senior Randi Garrity (Reading, Mass.) posted 11 assists for Regis. Hurd posted 14 digs from the Hawks' back row. For the Pride, Gold posted 10 digs and four service aces. Regis freshman Angelica Endara (Boca Raton, Fla.) and sophomore Megan Pratt (Rockland, Mass.) both tallied four kills.

Sophomore Kelsee Loche (Millis, Mass.) recorded six service aces on the night, as RWU totaled 11 compared to Regis' nine. Defensively RWU notched 42 digs, holding Regis to a -.063 hitting percentage. Regis tallied 32 digs in the contest. The loss moves Regis to 7-14 overall and 2-3 in the TCCC.

RWU plays the last of its five-match home stand Thursday, facing Worcester Polytechnic Institute in a 7 p.m. match. Regis next faces Framingham State at Newbury College Saturday in a 1 p.m. contest.
