MCCARTY EARNS ALL-TOURNAMENT HONORS DURING PRIDE INVITATIONAL

WESTON, Mass.—The Regis College women’s volleyball team had just one win in its two-day annual Pride Invitational Volleyball Tournament. Regis College (1-5) battled to within one point in the third match with Assumption, but a bobbled pass by Regis cost the Pride the game.

Regis’ only win of the tournament came against Suffolk University, winning three straight matches. The Pride took on Worcester State in its second game of the day, but the Lancers proved to be too strong for Regis defeating the Pride 3-1.

Meghan McCarty (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) was as solid of a player on day two as she was on Saturday. Sending repeated kills to the floor of the Assumption and Lancer defenses, McCarty was a contributing factor in keeping the Pride close in those two games.

Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif./Notre Dame) continued to serve the Pride defense well as its libero. Gold’s passes to teammate Randi Garrity (Reading, Mass./Reading Memorial) kept a consistent movement offensively.

McCarty’s play during the tournament earned a spot on the Pride Invitational All-Tournament team as voted on by the six other participating coaches.

Regis College will return to the court to continue its 2010 season against Pine Manor (Sept. 10), and play at home in a tri-match versus Lesley University and Norwich (Sept. 11).
