VOLLEYBALL WRAPS UP SEASON WITH TALENTED GROUP FOR 2010

Weston, Mass.-In front of a spirited 204 fans, the Regis College (8-26, 2-9 TCCC) women's volleyball team lost its The Commonwealth Coast Conference quarterfinal match against Endicott College 3-0 Tuesday.

Regis mirrored its 2008 campaign entering the 2009 postseason in the eighth seed and facing Endicott in the quarterfinal match, both were identical to its 2008 postseason appearance.

Sophomore Lauren Ross (Dracut, Mass.) led the Pride with 18 total attacks and five kills. Domingas Gomes (Brockton, Mass.) was second with 15 total attacks and five kills against Endicott.

The pair is expected to lead Regis College back to postseason play next season. If Caitlin Luquet (Walnut Creek, Calif.) returns next season the trio should offer a competitive returning core of athletes to TCCC play.

Luquet posted 13 assists Tuesday, along with three total attacks. As a team Regis had 28, 29, and 16 total attacks in sets one, two, and three respectively. Where Regis seemed to lose its aggressiveness was in its attack percentage.

Regis posted an overall .041 attack percentage in comparison to the Gulls .363. The Pride finished its match with 16 kills, 13 errors, and 73 total attacks. Endicott posted 40 kills, 11 errors, and 80 total attacks.

Regis had two fewer service errors than the Gulls, six and eight respectively.

Endicott's experience played a major part in the Pride's unfortunate Tuesday night loss. The Gulls held Regis to scoring a maximum of 15 points in three sets.

The Pride ranked in the top 10 of every major TCCC statistical category. Teammates Luquet and senior Alanna DelRose (Watertown, Mass.) each are ranked within the conference in two different offensive categories.

Luquet, having made an appearance in 50 games, led the Pride with 255 assists, an average of 5.10 assists per game in 2009. She was placed eighth prior to quarterfinal play.

DelRose holds a commanding lead in service aces with 76, an average of .69 service aces per game on the season for the Pride. Her total ranks second in the conference.

Volleyball will conclude its 2009 season with a team banquet in the coming weeks. The athletics department will recognize all of its teams and athletes with its annual end of the year ceremony in May 2010.
