PRIDE EARN WIN OVER PINE MANOR

PRIDE EARN WIN OVER PINE MANOR

CHESTNUT HILL, MA - A speedy, hard-serving Regis team picked up a 3-0 win in Pine Manor Gym Tuesday night, besting the Gators 3-0 in non-conference action.

Much of the night belonged to Regis' Alanna Delrose (Watertown, MA/Trinity Catholic), who quickly established her presence on the Pride's second serve of the opening game. With Delrose at the serve, the Pride (5-9, 0-2 CCC) opened a 9-1 lead, later closing out a Game 1 rout with five consecutive points on Delrose serves in the 25-8 win. Of the Gators (1-5, 0-3 GNAC) eight points, two came on kills from middle hitter Jen Gross (Coral Springs, FL/Coral Glades).

As she did all evening, Gross carried the Gators in the early going of a much more competitive Game 2. After two consecutive Gross kills, one of her team-high four service aces cut the Pride lead to 10-6. The Gators crawled to within two after Pride coach Kelly Murphy called her only time out of the night, and as a result, her team's lead swelled to 17-12 following four straight points on Delrose serves.

Another Gross ace pulled Pine Manor to within three, at 22-19, but it was as close as her Gators would come in a 25-20 defeat. Of her team-best 11 kills on the night, seven came in the second set.

A mini 3-0 run on Gross serves put the Gators up 7-6 to start Game 3, but four straight points in a 5-0 run with junior setter Randi Garrity (Reading, MA/Reading Memorial) at serve pulled the Pride ahead 14-9. Two serves later, another 5-0 gave Regis a 21-11 lead in what would be a 25-14 victory to cap the 3-0 sweep.

Veronica Vozzolo (Bellmore, NY/JFK) totaled a team-high 11 digs for Pine Manor, which travels to Southern Maine for a 7:00 match tomorrow night. The Gators return to GNAC play in a tri-match at Mount Ida, facing off with the host Mustangs Saturday at 10 a.m. and taking on Suffolk at noon.
