Pride Swim and Dive Splits Dual Meet with Plymouth State

WESTON, Mass. - Thanks to 10 event victories, the Regis College women's swimming and diving team defeated Plymouth State, 151-104, while the Pride men collected six event victories but lost to the Panthers, 134-87, Friday night in a non-conference dual meet at the Regis Pool.

First-year swimmer Whitney Assamoi (Boston, Mass.) won two individual events, finishing first in the 50 breaststroke by 3/10ths of a second with a time of 38.01 seconds as well as in the 100 breaststroke with a personal season-best time of 1:23.49. She also led off the 200 freestyle relay with a 50 split of 28.43 seconds, teaming with Jenna Silva (New Bedford, Mass.), Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.), and Davinity Smallwood (Naugatuck, Conn.) for an overall winning time of 1:55.30, a season-best mark for the Pride.

Senior Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.) also won two events, touching the wall first in the 50 backstroke in 30.54 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:06.77, both season-best marks. Junior Olivia Luhnau (Castle Rock, Colo.) was the third Pride swimmer with two individual event victories, as she finished first in the 200 freestyle in 2:11.06 and the 100 individual medley in 1:08.17, also season-best times.

Miller led off the 200 medley relay and Luhnau swam the anchor leg, joining Abby Parker (Peru, Mass.) and Riley Aptt (Woburn, Mass.) for a season-best time of 2:03.62 to win the event. Aptt collected an individual victory in the 100 butterfly in 1:09.60, leading a 1-2-3 Regis finish as Miller finished second in 1:14.42 and Vera Rivard (Springfield, N.H.) placed third in 1:22.00.

Hubster continued to show her improvement in the distance events, winning the 1000 freestyle with a season-best time of 12:31.08. Hubster also finished second in the 50 butterfly in 31.27 seconds, while Kaylee King (Norwell, Mass.) placed second in the 50 freestyle in 31.76 seconds and Smallwood posted a personal season-best time of 6:17.30 in the 500 freestyle to end up second in that event.

On the men's side, Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa) led the way with three event victories, finishing first in the 200 freestyle in 1:57.70, the 100 butterfly in 58.44 seconds, and the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:00.65. Werner finished 1/10th of a second ahead of Ryan Kim (Los Angeles, Calif.), who previously picked up event wins in the 50 breaststroke in 30.12 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.09.

Aryaman Nagaraj (Watertown, Mass.) picked up Regis' other event victory, finishing first in the 100 freestyle in 52.03 seconds. Nagaraj, Kim, Werner, and Samuel Madriz (Union, N.J.) opened the meet with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:47.69.

Individually, Madriz finished second in the 50 backstroke in 29.99 seconds and the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.66. Casey Whittaker (Topsham, Maine) touched the wall second in the 50 freestyle with a season-best time of 23.38 seconds, the 100 freestyle in 52.42 seconds, and the 50 butterfly in 25.83 seconds.

Regis College heads to Standish, Maine for a dual meet against Saint Joseph's College Friday, Nov. 17, starting at 6 p.m.
