Pool Record Highlights Senior Day Meet for Pride

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College women's swimming and diving team broke the pool record in the 800 freestyle relay to cap off a successful Senior Day meet, as the Pride defeated Elms College, 131-87, Saturday at the Regis Pool.

The quartet of Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.), Riley Aptt (Woburn, Mass.), Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.), and Olivia Luhnau (Castle Rock, Colo.) posted a time of 8:47.26 in the 800 freestyle relay, over five seconds faster than the previous pool record established Dec. 2, 2022.

All four members of the relay also won two individual events apiece during the meet, starting with Hubster's victory in the 1000 freestyle in 12:32.70, plus she finished first in the 500 freestyle in 6:10.91. Aptt won the 200 freestyle by close to four full seconds with a time of 2:17.64, and then she touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly in 1:12.07, followed by Hubster in 1:13.34.

Miller cruised to victory in the 50 backstroke by almost four seconds with a time of 30.48 seconds, and then she won the 100 backstroke by over two seconds with a time of 1:07.50. Luhnau finished first in the 50 breaststroke in 35.93 seconds, followed by teammate Abby Parker (Peru, Mass.) in second place in 37.28 seconds, and then Luhnau won the 100 breaststroke in 1:20.01.

On the men's side, Liam Austin (Boston, Mass.) came close to a record-setting performance in the six-dive one meter diving event with a score of 222.90, just 0.15 off the school and pool record of 223.05 established Dec. 1, 2023. Austin also posted a five-dive score of 159.90, while Michael Zammuto (Burlington, Mass.) finished with a five-dive score of 152.45 and a six-dive score of 173.85.

Cody Werner (Bettendorf, Iowa) shined for the Pride in the swimming events, posting personal season-best times of 51.32 seconds in the 100 freestyle and 4:36.57 in the 400 individual medley as well as a 200 free split of 1:55.41 as the anchor of the 800 freestyle relay.

Before the meet, Grace Heffernan (Winchester, Mass.), Samuel Madriz (Union, N.J.), and Miller were honored in the Senior Day presentation.

The Regis College swimming and diving team will now prepare for the 2024 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Swimming and Diving Championships, set to take place Feb. 2-4 at the WPI Sports and Recreation Center in Worcester, Mass.
