Women’s Swim Team Splits Season-Opening Double Dual Meet

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis College women's swimming and diving team split its season-opening double dual meet Saturday at the Regis Pool, defeating University of Saint Joseph, 164-81, but losing to University of New England, 156-102.

Olivia Luhnau (Castle Rock, Colo.) led the Pride with two overall event victories, winning the 50 breaststroke in 35.77 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.39. She was also second in the 50 freestyle in 28.07 seconds and posted the fastest split within the breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay at 35.04 seconds, joining Megan Miller (Quincy, Mass.), Riley Aptt (Woburn, Mass.), and Jenna Silva (New Bedford, Mass.) for a second place finish in the event with an overall time of 2:05.66.

Miller won the 50 butterfly in 30.62 seconds and finished second in both the 50 backstroke in 31.88 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 1:08.62. Aptt was right behind Miller in second place in the 50 butterfly in 30.70 seconds and in third place in the 100 backstroke in 1:09.84, plus she was third in the 100 butterfly in 1:09.50.

In her first collegiate swim meet, Ava Hubster (Crown Point, Ind.) finished second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:42.91 and in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:17.52, plus she anchored the 200 freestyle relay with a 50 free split of 29.69 seconds.

The University of New England also defeated the University of Saint Joseph, 182-56, to sweep the double dual meet. In the 200 freestyle relay, UNE's Michaela Hujus posted a 50 free leadoff split of 25.05 seconds to break the Regis Pool record of 25.13 seconds established in 2009.

Regis College (1-1) heads to Babson College to face the Beavers next Saturday, Oct. 14, starting at 12 p.m.
