Cashman Murphy Receives GNAC Rookie of Week Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. – After a record-breaking performance during Saturday's dual meet, junior diver Cashman Murphy (Westwood, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Swimming and Diving Rookie of the Week, announced Monday afternoon, Jan. 24, by the league office.

Murphy, currently in her first season of official intercollegiate competition, broke the school and pool records in one meter diving for a six-dive session. Her total score of 254.95 was 7/10ths of a point higher than the score posted by Elisabeth McQuaid, now an assistant coach, during the Regis Invitational Dec. 1, 2018.

Besides an improvement by 21.55 points in the six-dive event, Murphy also compiled a personal-best score of 174.30 in the five-dive event, over 28 points higher than her previous top score. She has continually posted a higher five-dive score from the competition beforehand throughout the season, while her previous top six-dive total of 233.40 came in the Pride's home meet Oct. 9, 2021.

This is Murphy's first career GNAC weekly award and the sixth conference weekly award for a member of the Pride men's and women's swimming and diving program this season.

During the upcoming GNAC Swimming and Diving Championships, Murphy will compete in the three-meter diving event at Simmons University Friday, Feb. 4, starting at 7 p.m. She will then participate in the one-meter event at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, Mass., Saturday, Feb. 5, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
