Pride Swim & Dive Teams Open Season with Solid Effort

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College swimming and diving teams opened the 2021-22 season with several individual event victories, plus the women's team defeated both University of New England, 183-93, and University of Saint Joseph, 199-81, Saturday afternoon at the Regis Pool.

Two Pride swimmers in their first collegiate competition led their team with three individual victories apiece as well as a relay win as the anchor leg. Laylan Harris (McKinney, Texas) finished first in the 200 freestyle in 2:11.83, the 50 freestyle in 26.88 seconds, and the 50 butterfly in 29.15 seconds, plus she anchored the 200 freestyle relay to a three-second win with a total time of 1:51.45.

Olivia Luhnau (Denver, Colo.) started her career by anchoring the 200 medley relay to a victory by over seven seconds with an overall time of 1:58.89. She then touched the wall first in the 50 breaststroke in 33.32 seconds, the 100 freestyle in 59.21 seconds, and the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.74.

Senior Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.) led off the 200 medley relay on its way to a meet-opening victory, and then she finished first in both the 100 backstroke in 1:05.01 and the 100 individual medley in 1:06.89, plus she ended up in second place just 9/100ths of a second behind Harris in the 50 butterfly with a time of 29.24 seconds.

Other individual victories for the Pride women include Cecelia Adelfio (Gloucester, Mass.) in the 50 backstroke in 32.95 seconds, Alexa Lancisi (Milford, Mass.) in the 100 butterfly in 1:05.17, and Cashman Murphy (Westwood, Mass.) in the six-dive session of one-meter diving with a score of 233.40. Lancisi and Julia Burke (Barrington, N.H.) also contributed to the team's victory in the 200 medley relay, while Adelfio, Riley Aptt (Woburn, Mass.), and Mallytza Ibarra Davila (Yuma, Ariz.) were part of the victorious 200 freestyle relay.

The men's team was led by senior Brendan Pike (Weymouth, Mass.) with victories in both the 1000 freestyle in 11:15.06 and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.09. Robert Wood (Cathedral City, Calif.) touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:03.45, and Sam Madriz (Union, N.J.) picked up a victory in the 50 butterfly in 27.01 seconds. The University of Saint Joseph defeated the Regis men in the overall dual contest, 149-76.

Regis College heads to Bristol, R.I., for the Roger Williams Invitational next Saturday, Oct. 16, starting at 11 a.m.
