Regis Swim & Dive Well-Represented in NEISDA Weekly Honors

WESTON, Mass. – After a successful Regis Invitational featuring a team victory for the Pride women and two pool records for the Pride men, three members of the Regis College swimming and diving team received weekly recognition from the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA), announced Wednesday afternoon by the coaches' organization.

Senior Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) was voted the Co-Female Swimmer of the Week, while classmate Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) received Female Diver of the Week honors. On the men's side, sophomore Brendan Pike (Weymouth, Mass.) adds another award as he was named Male Swimmer of the Week.

Individually, Leonard led the Pride with four event victories, starting with the 100 individual medley in 1:04.70. She capped off the morning session with a victory in the 200 individual medley in 2:25.03. During the afternoon, Leonard touched the wall first in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.54 and the 100 freestyle in 57.82 seconds.

Leonard also anchored the 200 freestyle relay to a one-second victory to open Sunday's meet, and then she led off the 200 medley relay to a convincing win by 5.63 seconds. This is the second NEISDA weekly award for Leonard this season, as she was previously honored Oct. 18 after Regis' season-opening victory over University of New England.

McQuaid made progress in her attempt to return to the NCAA Diving Regionals, winning the one-meter diving competition with an 11-dive score of 419.15. She will need to earn a score of at least 395 in another meet in order to qualify for the second consecutive year. McQuaid has now won three events so far this season, receiving NEISDA weekly honors after each of those victories.

Pike won two individual events during the Regis Invitational Sunday, setting a new Regis Pool record during one of the victories. Pike won the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:27.57, 2.38 seconds faster than the previous pool record established six years ago. He also won the 50 breaststroke in 30.58 seconds, almost two full seconds in front of his nearest competitor.

In addition, Pike finished second in the 500 freestyle by just a half-second with a time of 5:01.81 as well as in the 1650 freestyle in 17:46.20, 32 seconds faster than his time in the mile at last year's Regis Invitational. This is Pike's first NEISDA weekly award of the season and second of his career, as he was previously honored Jan. 17, 2019, after helping Regis defeat Colby-Sawyer College.

Leonard and McQuaid will be two of six seniors honored in a Senior Day presentation before the Regis women's swimming and diving team hosts Albertus Magnus Saturday, Jan. 4, starting at 11 a.m. Pike and the Regis men's swimming and diving team return to action the following week at Colby-Sawyer Saturday, Jan. 11, beginning at 12 p.m.
