Nick Rainville Wins 100 Free At NEISDA Championships, Sets Regis Program Record

KINGSTON, R.I. - Nick Rainville helped the Regis (Mass.) swimming and diving teams close the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships with a bang, winning his second race of the week with a program record time (46.54 seconds) in the 100 freestyle, Sunday at the Tootell Aquatic Center.

Adding to the men's effort was a trio of top 10 finishes by Grant Kollien (Acton, Mass.), Michael Bruno (Winthrop, Mass.) and Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.). Kollien and Bruno competed in the 1650 freestyle, finishing fourth and ninth, respectively, with times of 17:20.86 and 18:01.64 minutes. Unas added a sixth-place finish (2:20.48) in the 200 breastroke.

Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) was the day's star on the ladies side. She won silver in the 50 backstroke (28.09) then teamed up with Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.), Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) and Ashlyn DeRoche (North Reading, Mass.) for a fifth-place (3:43.92) in the 400 freestyle relay.

Gloria Sutton (Suffield, Conn.) added a ninth-place finish in the 1650 free (18:56.85) making it two top 10 finishes in the 1650 free race on the men's and women's side.

The NCAA season closes next month with the Division III National Championships hosted by IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind.
