PRIDE IN THIRD PLACE AFTER DAY ONE OF GNAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

BOSTON, Mass. - After the first day of the 2013 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Swimming & Diving Championships, both the Regis College men's and women's teams sit in third place. The Pride women currently have 53 points, while the men picked up 58 points on the day.

Freshman Kiet Luong (Makden, Mass.) had an outstanding day in the pool for Regis, as he broke three school records and a GNAC record. Luong took first place and broke both a school and GNAC record in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:03.47. The first-year swimmer also finished first and re-broke his own school record in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 53.69.

Luong re-broke another one of his own school records in the 100 Backstroke (54.58) and when he led off the 400 Medley Relay, which he completed in 26.64.

Alex Graf (Newton, Mass.) also had a standout day for the Pride men, as he took first place in the 50 Freestyle (22.58) and second place in the 50 Butterfly (24.80).

On the women's side, Haley Bowen (Litchfield, N.H.) took second place in both the 200 Individual Medley (2:21.80) and 100 Breaststroke (1:10.54). She was also part of the 400 Relay Medley with Kaitlynn LaPolt (New Haven, Conn.), Amanda Iandoli (Mansfield, Mass.), and Megan Kennelly (Milford, Mass.) that finished second (4:39.27).

"We had a tremendous first day at GNACs. Many season best, several lifetime bests, and Kiet put in a very impressive day breaking 3 school records. I am looking forward to more fast swimming tomorrow," said head coach James Sweeney.

The Championships will continue tomorrow morning, with the first event set to begin at 10 a.m. at the Holmes Sports Center at Simmons College. The finals are scheduled for 5 p.m.
