BEARS SWIM PAST PRIDE IN DUAL MEET

WESTON, Mass. – Bridgewater State University swept both halves of a dual-meet with Regis College on Saturday afternoon in Weston, Mass. The Bears won the women's side of the event, 125-95, while also taking the men's half of the meet, 114-96.

Regis received several strong performances on the women's side. The 200 yard medley relay team of Svetlana Loranger (East Freetown, Mass.), Lucia Liorente (Newton, Mass.), Brenna Melanson (Reading, Mass.), and Shannan O'Neil (Lowell, Mass.) posted a time of 2:01.62 in winning the opening event of the day. O'Neil followed that up with the top time (2:10.75) in the 200 yard freestyle, while Melanson added a win in the 50 yard freestyle (25.74) and Loranger was victorious in both the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:26.38 and 100 yard freestyle (58.40).

Melanson also won a third race with a time of 1:03.81 in the 100 yard backstroke, and Haley Bowen (Litchfield, N.H.) finished with the top time in the 100 yard breaststroke at 1:15.84.

On the men's side, the relay team of Nick Yerzyk (West Hills, Calif.), Stephen McGovern (Dorchester, Mass.), Andy LaForest (Roslindale, Mass.), and Djordje Mandic (Portland, Maine) posted the top time of 1:47.63 in the 200 yard medley relay and the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:36.39). Alex Graf (Newton, Mass.) picked up wins in the 200 yard freestyle (1:56.06), 200 yard IM (2:14.62), and 100 yard freestyle (51.40).

Djordje Mandic posted a time of 23.63 to take home the 50 yard freestyle, while Andy LaForest swam a time of 59.65 in the 100 yard butterfly to win that event. Nick Yerzyk also added a win in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:01.05 as did Stephen McGovern in the 100 yard backstroke (1:06.11).

"The team did another tremendous job today," said head coach James Sweeney. "Both the women and men continued to improve with another 90% best in season times, and we had five swimmers do lifetime best times."

"We raced really well but need to do a better job on the small details as we have been focusing on in practice. The next three weeks we will put in some very hard training as we focus on the GNAC Championships in December. I am very excited on how we have been training and I look forward to watching all of our swimmers swim faster than they ever have before."
