Women's Basketball Clinches Top Seed in Win over Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. - Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and Amanda Hawkesworth (Abington, Mass.) both recorded double-doubles on Saturday afternoon as the Regis (Mass.) women's basketball team defeated Elms College 65-38 in New England Collegiate Conference action at Picknelly Arena.

With the win, the Pride improves to 16-0 in league play (17-6 overall) on the season, and clinches the regular season NECC title for the fifth consecutive season. The Blazers fall to 11-4 in the NECC and 13-9 overall.

Ahead by a score of 29-24 at the half, the Pride pulled away in the third quarter to secure the victory, outscoring the host Blazers 25-4 in the frame. Stone scored 15 of her game-high 23 in the quarter, as well as pulling in six of her 12 rebounds. Elms struggled at the opposite end of the floor, hitting just one field goal on 12 attempts in the period, coming on a layup by sophomore forward Chaniah Pantry (New Haven, Conn.) in the quarter's opening minute.

The Blazers did not allow another field goal until 3:38 left in the fourth quarter, a span of 15:59, in which the Pride outscored Elms 28-3.

Elms was led offensively by junior guard Mackenzie Larochelle (Chicopee, Mass.), who scored 14 points for the Blazers in the losing effort. Stone's 23-point, 13-rebound performance was followed by 13 points and 11 rebounds from Hawkesworth and 12 points from sophomore forward Sam D'Angelo (Woburn, Mass.).

Next up for the Blazers, they will travel to Southern Vermont on Tuesday evening for a Valentine's Day matchup with the Mountaineers at 7:00 p.m. The Pride will be back in action the same evening as they play their final regular season road game against Lesley University at 8:00 p.m.
