WESTON, Mass. – For the fifth-straight season, the Regis College women's basketball team has earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming New England Collegiate Conference Tournament. The Pride will host the Semifinals and Finals Friday and Saturday.
Regis wrapped up the NECC regular season with an unblemished 18-0 mark in conference games, and has won 90-straight league contests dating back to the 2011-12 season. The Pride's 22-3 mark is also the fifth-straight season the team has posted 20+ wins. The Crimson and Gold have also earned the first ever regional rankings in conference history as they have been ranked the 10th and 11th best team in the Northeast Region by the NCAA.
Regis has also won 31 straight home matches has gone undefeated on Higgins Court for the second consecutive season. The Pride haven't lost a home contest since falling to Tufts on January 4, 2014.
The Pride will host #4 Elms College on Friday at 6:00 p.m., Regis swept the season series from the Blazers, but both contests were close games as Regis hung on to beat Elms 49-47 on January 16 in Chicopee and again, 69-61 during Senior Day in Weston two weeks ago.
In the second contest, #3 Mitchell College will play #7 Newbury College in the second game which will tip-off at 8:00 p.m. Newbury became the first ever #7 seed in conference tournament history to upend a #2 seed.
The winner of both contests will square off in the conference championship on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The conference champion will then receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament.
