WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's basketball team defeated New England Collegiate Conference opponent Lesley University 122-52 Tuesday evening on Higgins Court. With the victory, the Pride improve to 21-3, 17-0 NECC on the year.
Tonight's 122 points by the Pride smashed the previous program record (109) for most points scored in a game. The former record was set last year on campus against Bay Path University on January 13, 2015.
Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) set the single game scoring record with 37 points on 14-of-16 (87.5%) shooting and a 9-of-10 (90%) free throw performance. The sophomore forward broke the former record of 36 that was set last year by Amanda Hawkesworth (Abington, Mass.) against Daniel Webster College on January 31, 2015, a mark later matched by Stone on February 14, 2015 and Hawkesworth this season. Stone scored 25 of her 37 points in the first half.
Brandi Bonneau (Derry, N.H.), in her second career start, became new record holder with the most assists in a single game. The sophomore guard dished out 15 helpers, easily besting the past record of 11 set by Laura Sears against Rivier University on December 9, 2006.
Finally, freshman sharpshooter Chayla Louro (Randolph, Mass.) added 26 points in 25 minutes off the bench. Louro connected on 8-of-12 (66.7%) of her attempts from downtown, with the eight makes setting a new program record for most three-point field goals converted in a single game. Louro's eight three balls bested the previous mark set by, Alex Chace at Endicott on February 5, 2011 and matched exactly four years later by Janaya Bradley. Louro's 26 points also set a new career-high for the guard and she chalked up 17 of her 26 points in the second half.
Regis was 44-of-70 (62.9%) from the hardwood which was their finest shooting performance of the season. The 44 field goal conversions rank second all-time in a single game. They also outscored the Lynx 64-22 down low.
Sam D'Angelo (Woburn, Mass.) recorded her second double-double of the season with a personal-high 17 points and 11 rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench. Reigning NECC player of the Week Amanda Hawkesworth scored 17 points and snagged seven boards.
Ari Dimou (Manchester, N.H.) led the Lynx with a team-best 23 points. Sophomore guard Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) added 12 points and three rebounds while Hayley Wirth (Escondido, Calif.) chipped in with nine points on 3-of-4 (75%) shooting.
Regis returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Bennington, Vt. to square off against the Southern Vermont Mountaineers at 1:00 p.m. in the season finale. Lesley hosts Bay Path on Thursday for Senior Night at 8:00 p.m.
