WESTON, Mass. – Fresh off their New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship on Saturday, members of the Regis College women's basketball team and coaching staff have been recognized by the conference for their standout performances this season. The Crimson & Gold led all teams with three All-Conference selections.
Senior Sabree Rodriguez (Brockton, Mass.) and sophomore Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.) were named to the NECC All-Conference First Team, while junior Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine) was named to the All-Conference Second Team.
Pride Head Coach Julie Plant was also recognized as the Coach of the Year by the league's coaches after guiding her squad to an 18-0 regular season and winning the program's first NECC Championship. Plant has led the Pride to a remarkable 44-10 record over the past two seasons, including a perfect 36-0 record in regular season conference play. Her team has won an impressive 18 games in a row, while their current record of 23-4 matches the program's best overall record from the 1994-95 season.
Rodriguez has had a stellar season for the Pride, averaging 6.1 rebounds per game and a team-high 13 points per game. The senior also averages two assists per game and 1.5 steals per game, while her shooting percentage of 51.2% ranks as one of the highest in the league. Rodriguez was twice named NECC Player of the Week this season, and was honored as the MVP of the NECC Tournament on Saturday.
Marro, a 2012 NECC Honorable Mention Team member, has started and played in all 27 contests this year for the Pride. The sophomore guard is averaging 12.8 points per game, two steals per game, and leads the team in assists (3.7 apg) and rebounds (6.7 rpg). Her field goal percentage of 46.9% in conference games ranks fifth in the league, while she also boasts the second best assist to turnover ratio (2.2) in the conference. Marro was honored as NECC Player of the Week once this season and was also named to the NECC All-Tournament team this past weekend.
This marks the second year in a row that Ramonas has been honored by the conference as an All-NECC player, as the junior forward was named All-Conference First Team last season. Ramonas averages 10.7 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game, 2.2 assists per game, and a team-high 2.2 steals per game. Her field goal percentage of 54.7% ranks as the best in the entire league. Ramonas was named an NECC Player of the Week once this season.
Other awards announced by the conference included Vanessa Bosques (Windham, Conn.) of Daniel Webster College being named Player of the Year, Elms College being recognized with the Team Sportsmanship Award, and Amber Flagg (Windsor, Conn.) of Southern Vermont was named Rookie of the Year.
