WESTON, Mass. – For the second-straight season, the Regis College women's basketball team posted a perfect 18-0 mark during the New England Collegiate Conference regular season and therefore will host the final two rounds of the upcoming NECC Tournament on Friday and Saturday afternoon.
The Pride ended their season on a 16-game winning-streak, the second longest run in program history after the 19-game run by the 1994-1995 squad. During NECC play this year, the Pride averaged 72.3 points per game while giving up only 37.6 points per contest, a staggering difference of nearly 35 points per game.
Senior Sabree Rodriguez (Brockton, Mass.) has come on strong for the Pride in her last season, leading Regis at 12.9 points per game, and averaging 21 points per game over the final week of the regular season. Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.) is second on the team in scoring at 12.8 points per game and lead the team in rebounding (6.5 rpg), assists (3.6 apg), and is second in steals (1.9 spg).
As for the rest of the NECC Tournament field, Elms College (15-10, 14-4 NECC) earned the second seed and will play Mitchell (7-17, 7-11 NECC) in a first round game on Tuesday, February 19.
Newbury College (15-10, 13-5 NECC) will be the tournament's third seed and will host sixth-seeded Becker College (9-16, 8-10 NECC) in a first round game on Tuesday. The winner will advance to play a semifinal contest at Regis on Friday.
Fifth seed Bay Path College (9-9, 12-12 NECC) will travel to fourth seed Daniel Webster College (13-12, 13-5 NECC) for a first round matchup on Tuesday. The winner will meet top seed Regis on Friday in a semifinal game.
The top seven teams qualify for the NECC Championship. Predetermined tiebreaking procedures were used to seed teams with identical conference winning percentages.
