PRIDE CRUISE TO 59-37 VICTORY OVER DREW

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Fueled by junior Claire Ramonas' (Portland, Maine) double-double, the Regis College women's basketball team handed the Drew University Rangers a 59-37 loss in the Consolation game of the Westfield State University Tip-Off Tournament. Ramonas finished with a game-high 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Pride, who now sit at 1-1 on the year. Drew falls to 0-2 on the young season with the loss.

Regis came out of the gate strong, jumping to an 11-2 lead in the first five minutes of play. Following a team timeout, Drew began a small run of its own and cut the lead to just three points. Unfortunately for the Rangers, that was as close as it would end up being. Nikki Strizzi (Old Lyme, Conn.) knocked down a three-pointer with just under two minutes to play in the first half to push the Pride's lead to as many as 18 points. Regis headed to the locker room at halftime with a commanding 32-15 lead.

The second half of the game was much of the same story, as the Rangers struggled to keep pace with the Pride. Senior forward Becky Smith (Haverill, Mass.), who finished the game with a team-high 11 points, sank four free-throw attempts in a row to cut her team's deficit to 43-29 with just over eight minutes to play in regulation. The Pride would not back down.

With a little over two minutes to play in the game, Janaya Bradley (New Haven, Conn.) put the Crimson & Gold ahead 57-34 after she sank a free-throw shot for one of her 13 points of the game. Bradley also chipped in with three assists and four rebounds in the contest.

Regis held on to win the game by a 59-37 score. Ramonas was named to the All-Tournament Team for her standout performance over the past two games. Sophomore Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.) also had a strong showing for the Pride, finishing with nine points, seven rebounds, and a team-high five assists.

Regis will be back in action on Saturday, December 1st as the team travels to take on Tufts University in a non-conference matchup slated for 2:00 p.m. Drew will travel to Centenary College on Tuesday, November 20th for a 5:00 p.m. non-conference showdown.
