PRIDE CLIMB PAST MOUNTAINEERS 79-53 FOR WIN

WESTON, Mass.- The Regis College women's basketball team continued its streak of 13 straight New England Collegiate Conference victories with a 79-53 decision over Southern Vermont College on Thursday night. The win puts the Pride at 13-4 overall on the season, while the visiting Mountaineers drop to 6-14.  

Regis took off in the first period under the solid play of senior Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.) who converted on two three-point shots in the first period to put the Pride up by as many as 12. Crawford found fellow teammate Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.) open in the paint on a fast break play that allowed Regis to bring its lead to 15. The Mountaineer defense settled down late in the final five minutes of the first period to force the Pride to take deep contested shots in the paint. Southern Vermont used this opportunity to get the ball in the hands of Alyssa Davis (West Burke, V.t.) who hit two quick jumpers and lessen the Pride's lead to 13. The first half came to a close on a three point play from Sherrita Hall (Temple Hill, Md.) who  made mid range jumper and was fouled with seven seconds left in the first period to bring the final score to 42-29 in favor of Regis.

The Pride continued to push the offensive intensity in the second half of play. Sophomore Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine) and Emilee Marro crashed the boards for Regis, combining to tally 16 rebounds on the game. Ramonas found her stride in the low post halfway through the second half finishing the game with 15 points and a team high of four steals. Marro ended her performance for the Pride with 18 points and three steals. Crawford was the most productive player for the Pride notching a game high of 22 points, four assists, and two steals on the contest.

The Mountaineers were led by sharp shooting of Joa Claircius (Clermont, Fla.) who produced a team high in points on the game by scoring 15. Alyssa Davis (West Burke, V.t.) chipped in by tallying nine points and forced a team high of two steals. Ashley Veliz (Glendale, Calif.) was a defensive force for Southern Vermont by leading the team in rebounds with on the night with eight.

Regis returns to action Saturday when the Pride takes on Wheelock College in NECC play at 3:30 p.m. The Mountaineers play their next match-up in Cambridge, Massachusetts where they take on Lesley University.
