CRAWFORD NETS 1,000TH POINT IN REGIS VICTORY

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College senior Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.) became the 12th member of the Regis 1,000 point club in a 77-57 victory over visiting Daniel Webster College in New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. Crawford led all scorers with 25 points to help the Pride improve to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the NECC. Daniel Webster drops to 3-4 and 0-1 in league play.

Daniel Webster raced out to an early five point lead on a three by Sarah Paternostro (Glastonbury, Conn.) and a layup by Kirsten Murphy (Woodstock, Vt.). The Pride answered quickly and took its first lead of the game on three-straight baskets by Emilee Marro (Bedford, N.H.), Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass.) and Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine). Both teams traded leads over the next few minutes before another Marro layup and a jumper by Brittany White (Dorchester, Mass.) gave Regis its largest lead at 16-9.

The Eagles responded to the run by scoring eight-straight points capped off by an Alycia Gervais (Windham, Conn.) three ball that gave DWC a 17-16 lead. The Pride regained the lead on a pair of Ramonas scores and held a 22-20 lead with 8:36 showing on the clock.

Stephanie Crawford set up the offense but it turned into a broken play as the Daniel Webster zone took away her passing lanes. With no one open, Crawford pulled up at the top of the key and shot herself into the record books as the ball fell through net, leading to Crawford's 1,000th career point.

Following a quick timeout, Daniel Webster made it a one point game on an Alyssa Marson (Augusta, Maine) triple before Regis built a nine point lead on a pair of jumpers by Brittany White. Ali Chojnacki's (Erie, Pa.) jumper with 42 seconds remaining left the Eagles facing a seven point hole, 36-29, headed into the break.

Regis came out firing in the second half as the Pride quickly built an 11 point lead on a three by Crawford. Daniel Webster made it a six point game when Kirsten Murphy's desperation three with the shot clock expiring cut the Eagle deficit to 42-36, but Crawford answered on the next possession with a triple of her own with the shot clock winding down to push the Pride lead back to nine. The Eagles made one last push to cut it to six, but Regis ended the game on a 27-13 run to close out the Eagles and secure their second NECC win of the season.

The story of the game was turnovers as Regis forced 33 mistakes by the Eagles leading to 38 points off turnovers. Daniel Webster did win the overall rebound battle, 34-30, but the Eagles were outrebounded on the offensive glass, 15-7, leading to 17 second chance points for the Pride.

Stephanie Crawford led all scorers with 25 points and also added three assists and four steals. Claire Ramonas joined her in double-figures with 18 points and five rebounds while Emilee Marro chipped in with 10 points. Brittany White came off the bench to score 10 points and grab six rebounds while also swiping a game-high seven steals.

Daniel Webster received a double-double from Alycia Gervais, who posted 17 points and 10 rebounds. Kirsten Murphy added 12 points and six rebounds while Sarah Paternostro scored 15 points and added four rebounds and four assists.

Regis returns to action on December 29th in California as the Pride participate in the Purple and Gold Poet Classic and take on host Whittier College at 5:00 p.m. Daniel Webster wraps up its first semester of action and takes on Rivier College on January 5th, 2012 at 5:30 p.m.
