REGIS COLLEGE ATTEMPTS TO SLOW KEAN UNIVERSITY

UNION, N.J. (1/2/11) – The Kean University women's basketball team opened 2011 with an 82-50 victory over visiting Regis College (Mass.) in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.

Senior forward Tiffany Patrick (pictured left) had game-highs of 15 points and 15 rebounds for the #3/4 Cougars (10-2), while freshman forward Claire Ramonas finished with 11 points and five rebounds for the Pride (6-4).

The Cougars scored seven straight points early in the game to open up a nine-point lead at 15-6 midway through the first half and would close the half with a 12-4 run to lead by 18 points (44-26) at the break.

Patrick recorded a double-double before halftime, leading the Cougars with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while adding three steals, two blocks and two assists. Freshman guard Leah Murphy came off the bench to score all 10 of her points in the first half for the Pride.

In the second half, Kean held a comfortable double-digit lead throughout, before closing the game on a 15-2 run for the 32-point victory. Defensively, Kean held the Pride to just 23.4 percent shooting (15-of-64) and forced 32 turnovers.

Sophomore guard Nicol Biesek finished with 12 points, seven assists and three steals in the win, while junior forward Briana Winston had 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench. For the Pride, Ramonas added four steals and senior forward Sarah McNult had 12 rebounds.
