EARLY LEAD LIFTS REGIS COLLEGE TO VICTORY

WESTON, Mass.—Regis College women's basketball opened to 31-point lead by halftime for a 53-22 advantage entering intermission. It was a season-high scoring lead for Regis College. Regis College went on defeat Newbury College 84-46. The loss drops the Nighthawks to 1-6 on the season, while Regis improves to 4-2 overall.

The Pride shot better than 65 percent (20-for-31) from the floor in the first half, with seven Pride members shooting over 60 percent. Freshman Lauren Kimble (Concord, Calif./Miramonte) and Sarah McNult (Hampstead, N.H./Pinkerton Acad.) shot 75 and 80 percent respectively. Junior Stefanie Wozmak (Auburn, N.H.) had a first half-high 11 points for Regis College. McNult snagged 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Catherine O'Connell contributed a game-high 17 points for Newbury, and notched a double-double with 13 rebounds. O'Connell shot 43 percent (6-of-14), while the team shot a lowly 31 percent.

Five different Regis College player's posted double figures. Wozmak and freshman Leah Murphy (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) each finished with 14 points. Kimble added 13 points, while freshman Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass./Arlington Catholic) had 10 points of her own.

Having scored just 22 points in the first half, Newbury managed just 13 points 10:00 minutes into the second half. The Pride defense forced the Nighthawks to commit 26 turnovers, while Newbury forced 11 by Regis College.

With Newbury scrapping for every point, O'Connell would catch a pass from Kendra Bannister (Washington, DC/Brooke Point) with less than 6:00 minutes remaining.

A foul by Regis' Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine/Deering) put O'Connell on the free-throw line to bring the score to 75-39 with 5:30 remaining in the game.

Continuing to apply pressure to the Newbury offense, Regis College would force turnovers in the closing minutes to maintain possession of the ball and game.

Regis College will host Suffolk University (Dec. 7), while Newbury College will host Lesley University (Dec. 7).
