TERESA BUSIEK NAMED REGIS COLLEGE OUTSTANDING FIRST-YEAR STUDENT-ATHLETE

Weston, Mass.—Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass./Arlington Catholic) was recognized as the Regis College Outstanding First-Year Student-Athlete during the department’s annual athletics banquet.

Busiek, a two-sport student-athlete for the Regis College women’s basketball and lacrosse programs, is a graduate of Arlington Catholic High School.

Busiek played in 28 games for the Pride, and helped Regis College (16-12, 10-4 TCCC) reach its fourth consecutive The Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament. She tallied a career-high 14 points versus TCCC foe Curry College (01/15/11), and scored double figures four times during the 2010-11 season.

In her 19 games started, Busiek led Regis College on two separate occasions to at least a four-game win streak. Busiek finished in the top five on the team with a 65.7 free-throw percentage, and fourth best three-point percentage (28.1) of players having taken a minimum of 40 attempts.

Busiek finished her first-year under head coach Julie Plant averaging 4.9 points per game, 2.2 rebounds per game, and a 36.8 percent shooting from the field.

She joined the women’s lacrosse program under the direction of first-year head coach Liz Conant, and quickly became the program’s leading goal scorer. Busiek finished with a team-high 39 goals and 42 points. Busiek averaged 7.19 goals per game, and had a team-high 41.7 shot percentage.

Busiek was 7-for-10 on free position goals and shots. Defensively, Busiek collected 87 groundballs for the Pride, and ranked first within TCCC statistics.

This was the first year that the Regis College Athletics Department presented this award.

The Regis College Outstanding Student-Athlete Award is awarded to a male and female student-athlete that the department considers to have demonstrated athletic excellence to their team’s performance.
