RAMONAS POSTS DOUBLE-DOUBLE IN REGIS COLLEGE CONFERENCE OPENER

NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 8, 2011 –Sophomore Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.) scored a game-high 26 points to lift Colby-Sawyer to a 68-65 win over Regis College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both teams. 

The Chargers improve to 5-6 overall and 1-0 in the TCCC, while Regis pulls even at 6-6 overall and falls to 0-1 in TCCC action. 

Regis jumped out to a 9-2 lead on three jumpers from freshman Claire Ramonas (Portland, Maine) and a trey by freshman Leah Murphy (Westborough, Mass.). The Pride held a comfortable advantage over the next nine minutes before Colby-Sawyer went on a 12-5 run to take their first lead of the half at 25-24. The game was tied twice more before Regis finished the half on a 7-3 run to lead 35-31 at the break.

The Pride held on to a slim lead for the first eight minutes of the second when the Chargers again responded with a 9-3 run to regain momentum and the lead. Regis quickly rebounded and was ahead 65-63 with three minutes to play. Sophomore Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.) knocked in a pair of free throws to tie the game at 65-65 with two minutes left. DeSanty then connected on 3-4 from the line in the last minute to lift the home team to a 68-65 victory.

DeSanty added seven rebounds to her game-high 26 points in the win for Colby-Sawyer. Bullett recorded a double-double with 18 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Junior Kaitlin Fifield (Warner, N.H.) was the third Charger to register double-figures with a career-high 12 points on 6-11 shooting. Freshman Ashley Fruzzetti (Carver, Mass.) had eight points.

Ramonas recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Pride. Senior Sarah McNult (Hampstead, N.H.) also had a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Senior Brittany White (Dorchester, Mass.) and junior Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.) rounded out the Regis players in double-figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Colby-Sawyer travels to New England College on Tuesday for a 5:30 pm tip, while the Pride play at Salve Regina on Tuesday at 6:00 pm.
