REGIS WINS BIG AGAINST TCCC OPPONENT

Weston, Mass.—A close first half opened up to a 72-50 win for Regis College (17-8, 11-2 TCCC) when it defeated its The Commonwealth Coast Conference Anna Maria College (10-15, 2-11 TCCC) Saturday evening.

The Prides Jessica Page (Quincy, Mass.) posted a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds on the night. Teammates Cheslea Blair (Holland, Mass.) and Samantha Ashton (Worcester, Mass.) scored 13 points each for Anna Maria.

 

Both also snagged nine rebounds in 32 and 34 minutes respectively. Four other AMCats scored. Blair was perfect from the free-throw line, making all three of her attempts in the game.

 

Ashton was 3-of-6 (.500) from the line. As a team Anna Maria was 63 percent from the charity stripe.

 

Three other player marked double figures for Regis College. Brittany White (Dorchester, Mass.), Stephanie Crawford (Rockland, Mass.), and Sarah McNult (Hampstead, N.H.) contributed 15, 12, and 11 points respectively.

 

McNult owned the boards, snatching a game-high 16 rebounds. She had 17 rebounds against Wentworth, a possible TCCC quarterfinal opponent.

 

Crawford came close to reaching a double-double, dishing out seven assists for the Pride.

 

The AMCats defense gave Regis College a tough time near the basket. Regis tallied just 27 points in the first half, to Anna Maria’s 25 points. Anna Maria did not allow the Pride to hold more than a six-point lead in the first half, and tied the score five times.

 

Regis had just 12 points in the paint, and only five second chance point opportunities. The AMCats had 10 first half points in the paint, a total of 18 for the game. Anna Maria outscored Regis 14-13 in second chance points.

 

Regis College will return to the TCCC postseason for its third consecutive time when it hosts its quarterfinals opponent Tuesday, Feb. 20. Postseason tournament pairings had not been releases at the time of publication.
