REGIS CLAWING TO HOLD OFF SCOTS IN TCCC PLAY WEDNESDAY

Weston, Mass.—Regis is on a five game The Commonwealth Coast Conference winning streak entering its upcoming game. Regis College (12-7, 6-1 TCCC) will face Gordon College (9-10, 2-5 TCCC) Wednesday.

Three’s Company…

The Scots are capable of giving Regis a run although its TCCC record is nothing outstanding. Led by Heather DeKleine with 14.7 points per game, teammate Rebecca Carroll chimes in with 14.0 PPG as well.

Carroll is also grabbing an average of 8.6 rebounds per game for Gordon. Rounding out the top three scorers is Kim Levinsky. Averaging just 10.1 PPG, Levinsky notched a game-high 26 points in a 80-54 loss to Endicott College.

Within conference play DeKleine, Carroll and Levinsky are averaging 17.7, 18.0, and 15.7 PPG respectively. Each is ranked in the top 10 in the TCCC.

Levinsky is also making 43 percent of her three-point attempts (53-of-124). The three compile much of the Scots offense, but other players contribute to a certain role.

Regis should be able to defend each player with little need for help. Regis defeated Gordon 89-49 last year, but that will not be an indicator for this year’s match-up. Expect Gordon to play hard, and its three crucial players to show up.

Unlikely Contributors Add Depth to Regis

Sarah McNult posted her third double-double of the season against Wentworth Saturday (01/30/10), notching 15 points and 17 rebounds. McNult averages 8.7 rebounds per game, and will likely hold true to that statistic Wednesday.

If McNult scores she usually scores on second chance baskets or from the free-throw line. She is 45 percent from the field and better than 56 percent from the line.

Her double-double night game when the Pride’s two biggest point getters, Jessica Page and Brittany White had just nine and five points respectively.

Stephanie Crawford is averaging 11.8 PPG, and will remain fairly consistent against Gordon.

Page and White cannot have such poor scoring nights against Gordon or any of Regis’ remaining opponents. It is good that McNult and Crawford stepped up, but both White and Page should make their presence known.

Stefanie Wozmak and Caitlin Luquet also have the ability to show up for Regis. Luquet nailed a three pointer versus Colby-Sawyer College to keep Regis close in the second half. Regis went on to win that game 75-73.

The relatively young team has the ability to be a force within the conference. Page, White, and Crawford can be game changers when they play to their utmost ability. McNult is a solid rebounder that has to stay out of foul trouble.

The Pride’s depth is young and will develop into sound players as their confidence elevates their play.

Look for Regis to play hard against Gordon, if it does the little things right it will be Regis’ night.
