WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PREPARE TO WEATHER STORM

Weston, Mass.—Regis College (10-7, 4-1 TCCC), tied for the second best record in The Commonwealth Coast Conference is preparing to face the University of New England Nor’easters Thursday, Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m.

The Storm

The Nor’easters (14-3, 5-0 TCCC) have the conferences best record. Three UNE players are scoring double figures per game. Kelley Paradis is leading the way averaging 12.2 points per game, with Margo Russell and Carrie Bunnell contributing 11.4 and 10.8 points per game respectively.

Russell is also snatching an average of 5.4 rebounds per game (third on the team), and shooting better than 77 percent from the free-throw line. Paradis is doing her fair share of damage from behind the three-point line.

Paradis is shooting better than 52 percent from downtown, and is 30-of-58 (.517) thus far in the season. She has also been a solid contributor from the free-throw line shooting just under 75 percent.

With three solid point-getters, Regis will have its advantage near the glass. Katie Diggins leads UNE with 6.6 RPG, and two others average 5.5 RPG.

The Calm After the Storm

Regis College will have to dig deep to earn a win against the Nor’easters Thursday. Jessica Page and Stephanie Crawford week-in and week-out mention on game notes, and that will not be any different this week.

Both must score in double figures, limit turnovers, and be put on the free-throw line throughout the night.

Stefanie Wozmak has been showing improvement from the field over the last two games, and if she keeps her composure against UNE she could be equally as successful as she was against New England College (17 points) and Eastern Nazarene (13 points).

Wozmak has the ability to shoot, and must get into a rhythm early to be helpful through both halves. An area of improvement will have to be on the defensive side of the ball.

If she stays in front of her defender, and limits their attempts it could have a ripple effect for the rest of the Regis defense.

Another player that has made some impact is Caitlin Luquet. She is a complement to Page in terms of available three point shooters. Luquet posted a season-high 13 points against Eastern Nazarene.

In that game she was 3-of-4 (.750) from behind the arc. Similar to Wozmak, Luquet must find her shot early in the game. As well, she will have to play both ends of the court.

A stout defense is important for team success, and will be a sure way to slow the Nor’easters offensive attack Thursday.
