WESTON, Mass. – Carolyn Biel has been selected as the head coach of the Regis College softball program and athletics scheduling coordinator effective Monday, Aug. 19, as announced by Pam Roecker, Regis College Dean of Athletics.
Biel served as assistant coach at Central Connecticut State University during the 2023-24 academic year, helping coach, mentor, and retain the student-athletes on the squad. The Blue Devils went 28-19 during the season, including 15-11 within the Northeast Conference, and advanced to the championship round of the 2024 NEC Softball Tournament.
After starting her collegiate playing career at Central Connecticut State, Biel transferred to Eastern Connecticut State and was a team captain on the 2022 team that advanced to the Division III Women's College World Series. With one year of athletic eligibility remaining, she moved on to Trine University as a graduate transfer for the 2023 season and helped the Thunder win the NCAA Division III National Championship, driving in the title-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning of the third and deciding game of the championship series against Salisbury.
Biel has been the director of softball operations at DiamondZone in North Haven, Conn., since 2019, coaching and developing student-athletes who aspire to play collegiate softball. She oversaw the scheduling of the facility, managed customer relationships, and arranged the travel itineraries for several club teams within the program.
"I am extremely proud to announce the hiring of Carolyn Biel, a young coach who possesses a tremendous resume, ranging from trips to the Division III Women's College World Series as a player both at Eastern Connecticut State and Trine through being a Division I assistant and dedicated coach and administrator with a competitive club program," said Roecker. "She possesses a passion for the sport, a tremendous network of coaches and resources, and, perhaps most importantly, the understanding that communicating and building relationships with our current and future Pride Softball student-athletes is a priority. The future of this team is bright, and I know that she and (assistant) coach Sara Fallon are going to form a tremendous coaching team."
In addition to her softball coaching duties last year, Biel was an intern within the Central Connecticut State sports information office, serving as primary contact for women's soccer, women's basketball, softball, men's and women's cross country, and men's and women's track and field. She received her bachelor's degree in business administration from Eastern Connecticut State University in 2022.
"I want to thank Pam Roecker, the Regis athletics administration, and the search committee for showing their faith in me for this position," Biel said. "When this opportunity presented itself, it was perfect. It means so much to be able to instill a positive team culture and fully embrace Regis's mission. I cannot wait to help these young women accomplish their goals as well as mentor them and be a positive influence on their lives."
Biel takes the place of Ellie Adams, who left earlier this summer to pursue a coaching opportunity closer to her home in Michigan.
Regis College sponsors 19 intercollegiate sports, including softball, within NCAA Division III as a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
