WESTON, MASS. – Regis College Softball hosted the Lesley University Lynx in Weston, Massachusetts, for their home opener where they needed just ten total innings to complete the sweep. The Pride secured a 9-1 victory in the first game, followed by a dominant 13-3 win in the second to improve to 6-8 on the season.
Chloe Beland (Southborough, Mass.) led the Pride in game one with two hits and two RBIs, while Mel Rees (Middleborough, Mass.), Gabriella Blanchard (North Haven, Conn.), and Grace Motto (Wareham, Mass.) each recorded two hits. Mya Gaspie (Hookset, N.H.) struck out four batters to secure the win in the opener.
Abby Erikson (Worcester, Mass.) and Samantha Kelepouris (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the charge for the Pride in game two, each collecting two hits and three RBIs. Mel Rees and Kristin Galvin (North Reading, Mass.) also delivered multi-hit performances, while four other teammates contributed with a hit. Katie Julian was dominant in the circle, striking out nine batters to secure the victory.
Game One
- The Pride took an early lead as Mel Rees drove in the first run of the game, followed by two more runs to secure a 3-0 advantage after the first inning.
- In the top of the third, the Lynx attempted to rally, bringing in one run, but Chloe Beland made a crucial catch in left field for the third out, stranding the tying runs on base.
- Regis broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth, stringing together seven hits to plate six runs. Francesca Licata sealed the victory with a final hit to bring home Michala Edwards (Arlington, Mass.), clinching the Pride's 9-1 win in five innings.
Game Two
- The Lynx struck first with three runs in the opening inning, but the Pride responded with a two-out rally in the bottom half. Three consecutive hits, capped by a Galvin triple, brought home the tying run to even the score at 3-3.
- Regis added four more runs in the second inning, highlighted by an Erikson double to right-center that drove in three runs before she crossed the plate herself, giving the Pride a 7-3 lead.
- Over the next two innings the Pride extended their advantage, with a triple from Kelepouris fueling the offensive surge to make it a ten-run game, which proved to be enough as Regis secured the 13-3 victory an inning later.
Inside the Numbers:
- Mya Gaspie and Kate Julian each secured their first win of the season in the Pride's victories, with Julian's marking the first of her career in the crimson and gold.
- The Pride's fifth inning in game one featured an offensive surge with three doubles from Avery Patles (Derry, N.H.), Grace Motto (Wareham, Mass.), and Francesca Licata.
- First-years Kristen Galvin and Samantha Kelepouris each recorded their first career triples in game two.
- Abby Erikson extended her hitting streak to seven games, while Mel Rees pushed hers to five, with her last three outings featuring multi-hit performances.
