Regis Sweeps Fisher

WESTON, Mass. – Strong pitching and offensive performances by several players contributed to Regis College sweeping Fisher College, 20-0 and 20-0, Wednesday night in the home opening doubleheader at Regis Softball Field.

GAME 1: Regis 20, Fisher 0:

Mya Gaspie (Hooksett, N.H.) clinched her first collegiate win, pitching a no-hitter in game one.

After the Pride induced three consecutive outs in the top of the first inning, momentum kept rolling as Lexi Nichols (Grandby, Conn.) earned her fourth career home run and first hit of the game. Mel Rees (Middleborough, Mass.) hit a triple to left field while Jaylene Deslauriers (Taunton, Mass.) responded with a single to center field, bringing in Rees to put another run on the board. Grace Motto (Wareham, Mass.) tripled to center field, bringing in Avery Patles (Derry, N.H.) and Deslauriers.  Abby Erickson (Worcester, Mass.) earned an RBI to bring in Motto after grounding out to first base. The Pride finished the first inning leading by five.

Regis extended their lead by seven in the second inning, starting with a home run from Rees to bring in three runs. From there, Patles found a gap in right field to clear a double, bringing in Deslauriers. Motto made contact to bring in Patles, while Marissa Allen (Coventry, R.I.) reached first base and later advanced to second on an error, bringing in Motto. Allen scored just before the third out to extend the Pride lead 12-0.

Erikson brought in the only two runs in the bottom of the third after a single to center field. In the top of the fourth, the Pride would put on six more runs to finish the first game with a final score of 20-0.

Gaspie earned the win, pitching a complete game no-hit shutout with seven strikeouts. Nichols and Rees clinched home runs, while Rees also earned four RBIs. Motto led the Pride with five RBIs.

GAME 2: Regis 20, Fisher 0

Regis came out strong in the first inning scoring 10 runs off eight hits. Alexandra Willis singled to center field in the top of the second inning to create some momentum for the Falcons but could not advance on the bases as Rees struck out the next two batters. The Pride earned one run in the bottom of the second to lead by 11.

Rees started the bottom of the third with a home run, to extend the offensive output. Deslauriers knocked a double and later scored on a wild pitch, while Patles scored after an error by Fisher. A walk by Burke brought in Motto to score, keeping momentum on Regis' side. Emily Shea (Gloucester, Mass.) singled to right field, knocking in Elle Picard (Lisbon, Maine.) with the bases loaded. Bradish scored the final run to finish the third inning leading by 17.

The final three runs were scored in the fourth inning to bring a final score of 20-0.

Rees pitched all five innings for the Pride finishing with 10 strikeouts, three hits, and one walk, earning the win.

Regis (2-10) looks to continue its success with a doubleheader at Eastern Nazarene on Wednesday, April 3, with a start time of 3:00 p.m.
