Men’s Lacrosse Loses Season Finale to Monks

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College lost to Saint Joseph's College, 18-4, Tuesday night in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season finale for both teams at rainy Regis Stadium.

Xavier Michaud scored 27 seconds into the match for the Monks, and the visitors never looked back as Michaud collected another goal less than four minutes later followed by an assist on a man-up tally by Noah Tierney-Honan. Matt Denman and Will Levesque scored 53 seconds apart later in the first quarter to extend the Monk lead to 5-0 heading into the second period.

Saint Joseph's College received six goals from six different players in the second quarter to increase its advantage to 11-0 heading into halftime. After man-up goals by Calvin Heline and Scott Lynch in the third quarter, Regis finally broke through thanks to an unassisted goal from Nick Klein (Buxton, Maine).

The Pride would score three times in the fourth quarter, starting with a goal from Brendan Cook (Billerica, Mass.) off an assist from Evan Azary (Shelton, Conn.). Later in the period, Ryan Richardson (Corona, Calif.) would scoop up a rebound and convert a shot for his 11th goal of the season. With 1:23 left in the match, Colin McGarry (Brookline, N.H.) would earn his first career assist on a goal by Connor Deveau (Harwich, Mass.).

Michaud notched a hat trick as he collected three goals and one assist to lead a balanced offensive attack which saw 14 different Monks earn at least one point. Anthony Samiotes led Saint Joseph's College with four groundballs, and Nick Koufos paced the Monk defense with three caused turnovers.

Robby Fuller (Wolfeboro, N.H.) played the first half in net for the Pride and made 12 saves before Devin Hammon (Chicopee, Mass.) took over after halftime and earned 10 saves. McGarry finished with four groundballs and five caused turnovers to go along with his assist, and Thomas Crater (Welcome, N.C.) collected five groundballs as he won 10 face-offs during the match.

Brannon Gilbert started the match in net for the Monks and made one save as he earned his ninth victory of the season. Liam Greene played the second half and finished with four saves.

Regis College sees its 2023 season conclude with a 3-11 overall record. Saint Joseph's College finished the regular season at 10-6 overall, including an 8-2 mark within the GNAC. The Monks will host a quarterfinal match in the GNAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament Saturday, April 29.
