Men’s Lacrosse Loses at USJ

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Despite allowing its fewest goals in conference play this season, Regis College could not sustain an offensive attack, as the University of Saint Joseph defeated the Pride, 9-2, Friday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse match at the USJ Athletic Complex.

University of Saint Joseph (6-7, 2-4 GNAC) struck first just 2:08 into the match as Matt Crisco scored off an assist from Samuel Barbetti. The play went back and forth for the next 10 minutes without a goal as USJ goalie Jayme Hollimion made three saves while Regis goalie Robby Fuller (Wolfeboro, N.H.) was credited with two saves in that span.

After Regis gained possession and called timeout, the Pride executed its offense successfully as Ryan Richardson (Corona, Calif.) earned his eighth goal of the season off an assist by Nick Klein (Buxton, Maine.). However, the Blue Jays would take control with two goals within the final two minutes of the first period, as Christian Decker scored and then Evan Baden launched the ball into the net with one second remaining.

Decker picked up his second goal of the match just 21 seconds into the second quarter as the Blue Jays collected four goals in the period without allowing Regis to cut into their lead. Baden scored twice in the second period to give the home team a 7-1 advantage heading into halftime.

USJ scored twice in the third quarter as Decker completed his hat trick and then assisted on a goal by Garrett Lazor. Klein would pick up the only goal scored by either team in the fourth quarter as Fuller made four saves in the final period to keep the Blue Jays in single digits for goals.

Fuller finished the match with 15 saves and a .625 save percentage, his second-highest total in both categories this season. Hollimion earned nine saves as he received the Senior Day start and picked up the victory.

Regis College (3-6, 0-6 GNAC) begins a stretch of three straight home matches Wednesday, April 12, against Rivier University starting at 6 p.m.
