REGIS COLLEGE STUDENT-ATHLETES RECOGNIZED AS KATHRYN ERAT SCHOLARS

Weston, Mass.-Two Regis College student-athletes were recently announced as Kathryn Erat Scholars by the Regis College Campus Ministry Department. Nathan Fagundo (Newton, Mass.) and Josh Fidalgo (Boston, Mass.) were among eight other students selected to travel to Israel during spring break in 2010.

The campus ministry department selects the scholars each year to participate in its "Exploring Christian Roots in the Holy Land" seminar.

Fagundo and Fidalgo are members of the track and field, and soccer teams respectively.

Speaking about Fagundo being awarded the scholarship, head coach Christine Kloiber said, "It's not surprising."

"He is a focused young man that is accountable, and will put forth 100 percent in anything that he is passionate about."

Fagundo is a first-year member of the track and field team, but was a member of the men's lacrosse program during its club year in 2008.

Fidalgo is a second-year starter for the men's soccer program; a program that he has helped to four overall wins, and two The Commonwealth Coast Conference victories this season.

"This opportunity will be a great learning experience for him," said second-year head coach Jonathan Keefe.

"It will afford him the ability to become a more consistent leader on and off the field; I'm very proud of Josh's accomplishments."

Regis College men's soccer is in its second full year of being a varsity sport after being added as a club team when the school went co-educational in 2007.

Men's soccer has two matches remaining in 2009. Regis will face Wentworth Institute of Technology at noon on Oct. 24, and Eastern Nazarene on Oct. 28 at 7:00 PM.

Track and Field will begin its season Dec. 5 as a participant in the Husky Invitational.
